We just got back from a wonderful vacation in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. It was a little different than our other beach vacations because PV is located on the west coast of Mexico, not the Caribbean-white beaches and crystal blue water. PV has rocky beaches and dark blue water.
We arrive at the airport and expect all the craziness we had in Cancun-people yelling for you to buy a time share and not letting you around, others grabbing your bags so you have to tip them. But there was very little of that. Someone would only carry your bag if you asked and there were people selling time shares, but if you said no, they would let you walk by and not hound you. We then had a private car take us to our resort, much better than the bus/van full of people and having to stop at several different resorts, as we did at previous vacations.
We stayed at the Villa Premiere Hotel and Spa, it's basically in the middle of town, but beach front. All of the rooms face the ocean and there are only 80 rooms, so it's a small place. Puerto Vallarta landscape is beautiful, mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. Our room was nice, we had a large balcony with a hammock chair and hot tub. To Nathan's disappointment, no end tables that lit up, but we had tv channels that were english speaking and showed decent movies.
For some reason we always wake up around 7:30 a.m. on vacation, maybe it's the excitement of being somewhere new, or the fact that we wake up at 5a.m. every day, so 7:30 is sleeping in. Our days start early and are basically spent sitting by the pool until going in and getting ready for dinner that evening. Nathan would fit in a work out (big surprise) at some point each day. And one of the days we had massages, Vanessa had a chocolate one and Nathan had a sports massage.
One of the restaurants has what is called Show cooking. The chef wheels the cooking station around to each table and cooks what you order. A cute little old man played the accordion for our entertainment. Vanessa enjoyed steak and Nathan had the mahi mahi. Very good!
There was an earthquake while we were there, but we didn't know it happened. The next day we overheard some other guests talking about their friends emailing them asking if they are ok and how there is a scare of a tsunami. WHAT???? That's when we notice the red (DANGER) flags on the beach and our questions were answered, of why the staff kept a close eye on the ocean the entire day. Yeah the waves were bigger that day, but no tsunami. Dang it! That would have made for a good story.
All in all our trip was great! The weather was perfect every day. No clouds, no rain, just beautiful sunshine. Everything was very relaxing and laid back, no rush for anything, just sit and read and sleep by the pool.
